Attendance Calculator

Check whether your attendance meets the requirement, how many classes you must attend in a row to reach it, or how many you can still miss while staying above it.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the total number of classes held so far.
  2. Enter how many of them you attended.
  3. Set the attendance requirement; 75% is standard at most Indian colleges.

Formula

Classes needed = ⌈(R × T − 100 × A) ÷ (100 − R)⌉ · Classes you can miss = ⌊(100 × A − R × T) ÷ R⌋

T
total classes held so far
A
classes attended
R
required attendance percentage

A 100% requirement cannot be recovered once any class has been missed.

Worked example

You have attended 45 out of 60 classes and need 75%.

  1. Current attendance45 ÷ 60 × 100 = 75%
  2. Classes you can miss(100×45 − 75×60) ÷ 75 = 0

You are exactly at 75%, so missing even one more class drops you below the requirement.

Recovering low attendance is harder than it looks

Missing classes early in a term costs more than it appears, because every future class you attend has to pull up an average that includes those absences. At a 75% requirement, each class missed needs three consecutive classes attended just to get back to where you were.

The calculator solves this directly: if you are below the requirement, it shows the smallest number of consecutive classes you must attend to cross the line.

The maths behind the two answers

When you are below the requirement, the calculator solves for the number of additional classes that brings your percentage up to the target, assuming you attend all of them. When you are above it, it solves for how many you could skip before falling below.

Things to keep in mind

  • Colleges may count lectures, tutorials and labs separately, each with its own requirement.
  • Medical leave and approved absences are handled by your institution's rules and are not modelled here.

Frequently asked questions

How many classes can I miss with 75% attendance required?

It depends on how many classes have been held and how many you have attended. Enter both above and the calculator shows exactly how many you can still miss, or how many you must attend in a row to recover.

Does the calculator account for classes still to be held?

It works from classes held so far. To plan ahead, add the classes you expect to be held to the total and assume you attend them, then compare the two results.
